Not today, Galvatron!

I tried to keep it simple today. No painstaking cut-outs this time. The background is just a blue poster board. There was a lot of fiddling with the figures and trial and error to get the composition that I wanted though. FansToys Sovereign stood in for Galvatron. His angry face works so well for this kind of scene. DX9 Carry stood in for Hot Rod's arm. I could have used Masterpiece Hot Rod, but I didn't want to deal with the height disparity between the two figures. The trickiest part was dealing with the Matrix. At first I tried to suspend it from string, but then realized I'd have to clean it in Photoshop so I simply resorted to balancing it on Sovereign's chest. The glow effect is from Inner and Outer Layer Style effects along with a Lens Flare render.

So much for your resurrection!

I must admit that my recollection of Seasons 3 and 4 are spotty at best. Thank goodness for DVDs. Now I can go through all the episodes for scenes to recreate.

I photographed Masterpiece Optimus Prime and DX9 Tyrant separately. This made it easier to scale them with each other in the scene. There wasn't much needed doing except to clean up some screw holes on both figures. Posing Tyrant was a compromise between getting the angle that I wanted while keeping his face from being blocked by his shoulder pylons.

The purple background is a photo of my Mechanical Chain Base panels after running it through a Sprayed Strokes Filter Gallery. I don't have a pile of junk to photograph so I used a castle piece from a board game. The little item in the foreground is the Immobilizer accessory that comes with Masterpiece Exhaust. All were run through a Blur Filter and had Saturation Layers applied to change their colors.

This is the end of the road, Galvatron!

DX9 Carry and Tyrant are great figures. They are fun, high quality, and very posable. However, I didn't want to test out how strong Carry is by having him lift Tyrant, who is quite a bit larger. MP-9 Rodimus Prime was also an option, but I wanted to useTyrant's counterpart.

I created the shot by compositing separate shots of each figure with layer masks. I could have made Galvatron's legs a little less stiff looking, but I had to get him to stand without falling over. Also when drawing the figures, they can do stuff like leave out Rodimus Prime's wings.

I also added a little grimace to Tyrant's face.

Since I don't have any similar materials to photograph, I just left the background alone. The only thing I had to do was use the Clone Stamp tool to erase where the drawn characters peaked through the toys.
